About "La Dafne" - M. da Gagliano (1608) in Miami
"…The seven-member cast displayed superb versatility, with light, flexible voices in the soaring coloratura and an innate stylish way with early-opera vocalism.
Guillmette Laurens was an entrancing Venus, deploying her dark, agile mezzo sensitively in Chi da lacci d'amor. Tenor Benoit Porcherot made a vital and engaged Thysis, bringing theatrical flair and nuanced phrasing to his exposition. Karim Bouzra's rich-toned tenor suited Apollo, capturing the boastful god and, later, etching his sadness at Dafne's transformation. Anne Magouet sang with fine feeling in Dafne's brief appearance, and Marc Manodritta and Philippe Roche were on the same high level as the Shepherds. Most impressive was Daphne Touchais as Amore, whose bright, pure-toned soprano and vivid characterization fully inhabited the Cupid character's childish pride and mischievous glee in weaving her spells…" Lawrence Johnson |
